Water Relief: MSF assistance in Highland Guatemala

Medicos Sin Fronteras (MSF) is working in a number of capacities to ease the suffering of Guatemalan people. Departments from MSF Spain, MSF Switzerland and MSF France have coordinated efforts to provide emergency potable water supply systems in the new village of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan. Fittingly, Quiche Mayan resident, Miguel Angel maintains the water system that brings this critical resource to the new community. Miguel was trained by MSF in the maintenance of the water system and the chlorination of drinking water. In this village, perched at the peak of a mountain, there are very few sources of clean surface water. With this gravity-fed double-well system, MSF has eased the health and sanitation crisis faced by the new community of 2800 people. This photo series documents the MSF assistance in Ixtahuacan, and looks at the people who depend on the system for their basic needs.
